About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about food and baking to start their culinary career as a Pastry Commis Chef Apprentice at Art’otel London Battersea.

This Level 2 apprenticeship is ideal for someone with enthusiasm and interest in pastry and cooking — no previous professional experience required. You’ll work alongside experienced chefs in a professional hotel kitchen, gaining hands-on experience while developing essential culinary skills.

What you’ll be doing

As a Pastry Commis Chef Apprentice, you will:

  • Support the pastry team with the preparation of desserts, doughs, breads and sweet items
  • Learn core culinary skills including:
    • Basic butchery
    • Fish preparation
    • Pastry techniques and kitchen organisation
  • Follow recipes and instructions from senior chefs
  • Maintain high standards of food hygiene, safety and cleanliness
  • Assist with daily kitchen operations and service preparation
  • Show a positive attitude and willingness to learn in a fast-paced kitchen

Training and development

This apprenticeship combines practical work with structured learning:

  • 1 month full-time in the kitchen before enrolling in college
  • Level 2 Pastry Apprenticeship qualification
  • 4 days per week on site + 1 day per week in college
  • Hands-on training in pastry production and core culinary techniques
  • Ongoing support from experienced chefs and professional learning resources

On completion, you’ll achieve a Level 2 Commis Chef qualification, providing a strong pathway into professional cookery roles.
