Interested in working behind the scenes in theatre? This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on backstage experience on a live production at The Old Vic.
About the Role
OV Backstage is a paid work experience programme where you’ll shadow industry professionals and gain practical experience across different areas of theatre production. You’ll be part of a live show, learning how a professional theatre operates from behind the scenes.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Shadowing backstage professionals on a live production
- Supporting with practical tasks (e.g. props, lighting, costume, sound)
- Attending rehearsals, production meetings, and technical rehearsals
- Gaining insight into how different teams work together
- Attending Press Night
What We’re Looking For
- Interest in theatre, events, or creative production
- Some basic or transferable experience (school, hobbies, short courses)
- Willingness to learn and get involved
- Good availability across programme dates

Location: The Old Vic Theatre, 103 The Cut, London SE1 8NB
Programme Dates:
- Induction: 14 to 17 July (10am–6pm)
- Shifts: 17 July to 17 August (varied hours)
- Technical rehearsal focus: 18 to 28 July
- Final workshop: 18 August
